About the circuit

The Circuito de Jerez, officially known as Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto, is located in Jerez de la Frontera, Andalusia, Spain. Opened in 1985, it is one of Spain’s premier motorsport venues, renowned for hosting the Spanish MotoGP Grand Prix and other international racing events, including Formula 1 testing and the World Superbike Championship. The track is 4.428 km (2.751 miles) long and features 13 corners, with a balanced mix of fast straights, sweeping turns, and tight hairpins. Jerez is considered a technical circuit, where precision, bike or car control, and cornering speed are crucial to success. The track’s layout is known to test a rider’s or driver’s ability to maintain momentum, particularly through the challenging Sito Pons corner and the hairpin at Dry Sack, which are key overtaking points. Jerez’s warm climate and its position in southern Spain make it an ideal location for winter testing, particularly for MotoGP and Formula 1 teams. Over the years, the circuit has seen many memorable moments, especially in motorcycle racing, where legends like Valentino Rossi and Marc Márquez have achieved iconic victories. The circuit was renamed in honor of Ángel Nieto, one of Spain’s most celebrated motorcycle racers, after his passing in 2017. Today, the Circuito de Jerez remains a cornerstone of the global motorsport scene, attracting thousands of passionate fans each year.
